Congratulations to Sean Ahern and Charlie Coakley on winning Best Team at the UCC Philosoph Munster Final. Congratulations also to Guan Hui Lin on receiving Best Individual Speaker. Charlie Crosbie also reached the final and performed excellently. A great achievement for all involved.

Congratulations to Sam Brogan, First Year, who was named Grand Champion at the National Junior Mace Debating Finals in Dublin at the weekend. Sam was also named Best First Year and Best in Munster. Well done also to Liam Canty, Third Year, who broke for the Final of the competition also. We are very proud of Sam and Liam’s success and are grateful as always to Debating Coordinator Ms Ellen O’ Shea for her support.

Congratulations to the CBC Transition Year editorial team whose newspaper The Christians’ Chronicle was a finalist at Newsbrands Ireland’s Young Journalist National Media Awards at the Royal Convention Centre in Dublin yesterday. Congratulations to Third Year students Oran Buckley, Garvan Gillard, John Murphy and Darragh Ó Súilleabháin who emerged as Regional Winners at the Annual Pi Quiz Regional Final held on Tuesday 24 March. Congratulations to Fourth Year CBC students Kevin McCarthy, Matias Ó Conaill, Michael Keane and Oscar de Róiste, who have been shortlisted for the Gráinne O’Neill Memorial Legal Essay Competition award. Students were asked to submit a 1,500-word essay examining the topic of challenges in online freedom of speech. Regional judging by local solicitors is now over, and Kevin, Matias, Michael and Oscar will now go forward to the national round at Blackhall Place, Dublin in May.

We were delighted to welcome Commissioner Michael McGrath to CBC on Friday to launch our Zambia Immersion Project Chaser fundraiser. Commissioner McGrath addressed an assembly of students and parents, spoke about the importance of our participation in developing world issues and highlighted Irish and European Union support for Zambia in areas such as education, healthcare and trade.

Congratulations to the CBC Rowing Team on their performance at the London Head of the River Race last Friday. The crew delivered an excellent time, a fitting reflection of the hours of training, dedication and commitment invested throughout the season. The College was delighted to welcome Cork City players Matthew Murray and AJ Bridge ahead of our U19 National Cup Final which takes place tomorrow in Tralee. Matthew and AJ shared their thoughts on preparation for the game and wished the team well.

Congratulations to Cian McDonnell, 5th Year, who recently qualified for the Irish Schools Golf Final after finishing among the top four golfers at the Munster qualifiers in Monkstown. The Irish Schools Final will take place in Lucan Golf Club on Monday, 27 April. We wish him the very best of luck.
