Hurling
Over the past ten years, CBC has established itself as a powerhouse in schools hurling, competing at the highest levels of Munster and All-Ireland competition.
Our hurling program operates across multiple age levels, with students participating in Cork Colleges and Munster Schools competitions from Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Dean Ryan and at senior level in the prestigious Dr. Harty Cup, Munster's premier U19 schools hurling championship. All teams train regularly at least twice a week.
CBC were runners-up in the inaugural Harty Cup final in 1918.
After a lengthy absence from top-level competition, the College made a significant breakthrough in 2015 by winning the Cork Colleges U14A title, and the following year marked our return to the Harty Cup with our first win in 97 years. We have reached at least the Quarter Final or Semi Final of the competition each year, competing in the Final in 2019 and 2020.
CBC were crowned O’Callaghan Cup champions in 2019 and 2022.

CBC’s influence extends far beyond schools competition, enjoying a rich tradition of developing elite players for both county and national competition.
In 2025, CBC contributed an impressive eight players and three coaches to the Cork All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship squad.
In November 2024, past pupil Robert Downey was appointed captain of the senior hurling team for the 2025 season, with fellow CBC graduate Shane Barrett named as vice-captain.
Under Downey's captaincy, Cork captured the National League title in April 2025 and won the Munster Championship following a penalty shootout victory over Limerick.
CBC’s exceptional talent development was further highlighted when three past pupils received All-Star awards, underlining the College’s status as a premier nursery for elite hurling talent.
This exceptional contribution demonstrates the school's vital role in developing Cork's hurling talent pipeline and maintaining the county's competitive edge at the highest level of the sport.
