On Friday, 8 May, the College hosted the annual CBC Gold Medal Debate, featuring two excellent debates. We were delighted to welcome Mr Fionnán Sheahan as our guest speaker. As Ireland Editor of The Irish Independent, he writes extensively on current affairs, contributes a weekly column and hosts The Indo Daily podcast. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the PPU President, Mr Shane Kelly, who acted as Chairperson for the event and our panel of adjudicators for their time and expertise in judging the competition.
Congratulations to Cathal Walsh (Fifth Year), winner of the Gold Medal Debate, with Seán McSweeney (Sixth Year) named runner-up and Charlie Crosbie (Sixth Year) placing in third. Congratulations also to Filip Kryzanowski (First Year), winner of the Prize Debate and Sam Brogan O'Farrell (First Year) who was runner-up. Well done to Isaac Scallan-Cotter who was announced as the winner of the Br Elliot Declamation Prize. Well done to all involved and sincere thanks to Ms Ellen O'Shea for her guidance and support as Society Patron.
