Transition Year

Transition Year is a vital year in the development of our students.

The benefits of our programme will be felt in the future as our students practice many of the skills learned in this year.

The purpose of Transition Year in CBC is based on the student dimensions from the new Transition Year Programme Statement - Being a Learner, Personal Growth, Civic and Community Engagement and Career Exploration.

CBC achieved success in the National Schools Journalism award when they were chosen as the winners of this year's School Newspaper Competition in the Aviva Stadium

Transition Year is often described as a bridge.

A space between the structure of the Junior Cycle and the responsibility of the Senior Cycle.

But more than that, it’s a year of possibility.

A year where our students step outside the textbook and become learners in the richest sense of the word.

Not just in classrooms, but in workshops, on stage, in workplaces, and within the wider community.

One of the standout aspects of our Transition Year Programme is undoubtedly the TY play.

It isn’t just about stepping onto a stage—it is about stepping out of comfort zones, offering an opportunity to shine as a first time performer, to work backstage, or to collaborate creatively on such a large project.

The play brings TY students together in a unique way, building confidence, teamwork, and a sense of shared achievement.

It teaches valuable skills—communication, time management, resilience—and it also gives students a chance to express themselves and be part of

something unforgettable.

The laughter, nerves, and applause will stay with them long after the final curtain.
