Welcome to Christian Brothers College
Principal Mr David Lordon

In deciding to choose CBC for his secondary school education, a young person becomes a member of a community of learners with a long and proud history.
Since its establishment in 1888, Christian Brothers College has committed itself to excellence in all aspects of school life, providing an environment where everyone can reach their full potential in a happy, safe and nurturing environment. It offers the opportunity to form friendships, develop talents and interests, and benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of a highly skilled and committed teaching and coaching staff. In essence, our aim is to prepare our students for the world, equipping them with the skills and outlook needed to enjoy happy, fulfilling lives.
At the heart of what we do is a commitment to Catholic values, rooted in the tradition of our founder, Blessed Edmund Rice. These values are characterised by qualities such as self-respect, concern for others, service and a commitment to uphold what is right, traits that are essential for character formation. Blessed Edmund’s message of love and respect for one another is as relevant today as it was over two hundred years ago when he began his mission. Student wellbeing is promoted through the lived realisation of these principles, and through an extensive programme of extra and co-curricular activities and pastoral supports.
While aware of its heritage, Christian Brothers College is nonetheless a truly modern facility, continually mindful of what is needed to provide 21st Century education of the highest standard. From its situation on a large elevated site overlooking Cork, CBC has been part of the fabric of the city’s life for well over a hundred years. Significant investment in college infrastructure has taken place in recent times, and an exciting planned development programme will ensure that the highest standards in teaching and learning will always complemented by the quality of its facilities.
As we look forward to welcoming our newest members to the CBC community, we reaffirm our commitment to our motto ‘Certa Bonum Certanum’, fight the good fight, and to the central tenets of our mission statement, ‘striving to allow each individual student to grow and develop and to ensure that the education it gives is suited to each generation of boys’.
With every good wish,
David Lordon
