Zambia Immersion Project
2024

On 4 June 2025, the CBC Zambia Immersion Project team embarked on a life-changing two-week Immersion Project to Mazabuka, Zambia. The team comprised of fourteen Fifth Year students and three teachers.

A busy year of rigorous preparation preceded the team’s travels, attending workshops, using their creativity and imagination to come up with fundraising ideas and organising donations of essential supplies for the people of Mazabuka. These initiatives not only raised significant funds for the project but also heightened awareness about the mission among the school and the wider community.

The trip had a profound impact on everyone in the team. Many felt that the immersion was life changing, others saw themselves as being very fortunate to have the opportunity to live in such a vastly different environment. But one thing everyone was sure of was that they had met a people whose spirit rose above their grim circumstances. In a strange way, their lives are more full than many people in Ireland and elsewhere. While we had brought gifts and money to the people we met in Zambia, many felt that it was we who had come away enriched.

The impact of this immersion will extend beyond the immediate community in Zambia. Not only did our students develop resilience, adaptability, and a profound sense of gratitude, they learned to navigate challenges, work collaboratively, and communicate across cultural barriers. They have returned home with a renewed sense of purpose and a genuine commitment to continue their service work. This project is not an isolated event but a stepping stone in a lifelong journey of service for these boys.

As the CBC community continues to foster such immersive experiences, the ripple effects will undoubtedly contribute to a more compassionate and understanding global community. The students’ journey to Zambia serves as a powerful reminder of the impact young people can have when they are empowered to serve and learn from the world around them.

This amazing experience would not have been possible and as fulfilling without the steadfast support and opportunities presented to us by so many in the CBC community; management, staff, parents, fellow students and past pupils. We are grateful also to the SERVE community in both Ireland and Zambia.

Through this amazing organisation we were privileged to experience first-hand the life-changing impact of service. The determination, enthusiasm and commitment of each person in the SERVE community has taught us valuable life lessons.
