Basketball

Basketball is continuing to go from strength to strength in CBC with teams in every age group progressing far in their respective competitions. Basketball in the College received a considerable boost this year with the addition of Serbian coach Sasa Punosevac who has had a major influence. His credentials are impeccable, and his experience as Neptune Senior Men's coach and Irish Senior Women's coach has enabled him to being a unique insight and experience to coaching the boys in the College.

The boys themselves within the College are also highly committed playing and training not only with the College teams but also with teams around Cork, which means that the skill level and experience of the boys is progressing very quickly.

The Seniors this year enjoyed considerable success this year, coming second in the league. On a national level they were very unlucky to miss out on the semi final play offs.

The progress and results of the Junior College teams is particularly heartening, as it bodes very well for the future of basketball within the College. This year the first year team came second in the league and as a result made the playoffs. On a national level then the team put in several spirited performances and finished sixth in Ireland, a very positive result. The second year team came fifth in the league and as a result just missed out on the playoffs but the campaign provided the boys with valuable experience which they can use to their advantage in the next years campaign.

In addition to the hard work of the boys, huge recognition must be given to their coach, and also the staff members Mr Ian Rea and Ms Elaine Hammond who give readily of their time to assist, and train the boys but also to act in an administrative capacity to organise gear, venues, buses. With such a team behind them and with such able players the future is sure to be bright for basketball in the College.
