This ensures that a pupil who has completed the Junior Cycle will have all the avenues of career development open to him.
The Department of Education and Science now requires that all pupils sit the Junior Certificate Examination after three years. This examination replaced the Intermediate Certificate in 1992. Pupils who have completed the Junior Cycle follow a one year Transition Programme followed by the two year Leaving Certificate course.
All subjects are available at ordinary and higher level. Pupils normally take seven subjects for Leaving Certificate - English, Irish, and Mathematics, and a selection of four other subjects. Certain subjects are available after normal school hours should students wish to take an extra examination subject.
